Just Between Us
6th grade, for me, was the beginning of several years of pure torture. Middle and high school sucked. In hindsight, I know that my own poor decisions were the cause of such a crappy adolescence. I was painfully insecure and lacked serious motivation.
My relationship with my parents, especially my mom, was very strained during those years. My mom grew up in a single parent household and was always pretty independent and responsible. She grew up in the projects in Chicago and saw a lo…

Red Table Talk
Jada Pinkett Smith, her mother Adrienne, and daughter Willow debuted their Facebook talk show, Red Table Talk, today. Y'all...the first episode was EVERYTHING. I even dropped a couple thug tears. In the episode, Jada, a fellow bonus mom, sat down with Will's ex-wife and her bonus son's mother, Sheree Fletcher for a very (and I mean VERY) candid conversation about their 20+ year co-parenting journey. While you could feel the love and respect between the two, you definitely…

Dear Bio Mom
I thought long and hard about whether or not I wanted to write (and post) this because my pride says that you don't deserve a mention around these (blog) parts. BUT, you know what? I decided that I needed to share this for me - and maybe to encourage a fellow stepmom. And maybe even you if you ever read this.
So, let's cut to the chase.
I'm hella pissed off at you. And frustrated. Really frustrated. When I signed up for this stepmom gig almost 9 years ago, I really had no…

Blended Chaos
I looked at the calendar today (March 30th) and I instantly remembered. Today marks one year since my bonus kid, Kendall, came to live with us full-time. The circumstances that led her here were awful. If it were up to me, I would share all of the gory details, but out of respect for my man and my family, I will spare you the details. Just know that it was ugly.
And when I think back on that time, I am flooded with emotion - frustration being at the top of the list of emotions.
Can I …

Challenges + Choices
I know, I know...like, who do I think I am coming back on the scene after all this time?! I wanted to share something God placed on my heart yesterday and there is no better place to journal those thoughts than this little blog that was once such a fun little project of mine. Who knows...maybe I'll get my thoughts together more often and post more. We'll see. Anyway, back to God. And my heart. So, my party of 5 stopped by a kids shoe store yesterday that is going out of business…

Life Lately
Once upon a time, blogging was everything to me. It was my creative outlet. A place to share my thoughts on style, faith, family, friends, DIY, and the like. And then...I had a baby. And suddenly, my weekly blog posts turned into every other week blog posts. Then eventually monthly blog posts. And before I knew it, a whole year had passed since I blogged last. Some days I miss it. But most days, I don't think much about blogging. Because you know what...life is just busy. And when…

Faith
I am exhausted emotionally and physically. On a scale of 1-10 (1 being horrible and 10 being the most patient person ever), I would rate myself a big fat zero in the patience department. Impatient with my husband, impatient with myself, impatient with work...just plain impatient.
So let's just cut to the chase...I am spiritually depleted. It's crazy and, frankly, disappointing that I have to get to a place of sheer exhaustion and annoyance before I realize the reason wh…

Daniel Fast Preparation + Channeling My Inner 'Jenny from the Block'
Happy Sunday, LOVES!
It was cold & rainy in Dallas this weekend.
Hubby had drill (he's an ARMY reservist), so ladies weekend, it was.
Kendall spent the holidays with her grandparents on her mom's side, so it's been a month or so since we last saw her. She was definitely missed this Christmas.
I spent the better part of the day on Saturday doing laundry and cleaning.
Later on, we headed to a birthday party, attended Saturday service, and met up with some friends for di…
