Houndstooth

I noticed something recently. When you use words like oxblood or houndstooth to describe a color, print, or pattern...it automatically makes you a legit authority on fashion. I'm guilty of it...trying to sound legit when I am sooo not legit. Like at all.  But seriously...have you ever asked yourself...what in the heezy is oxblood? Or houndstooth?

I'm sure you're wondering why this is relevant at all to your life. Well, I'll tell you. Are you ready? My girl Kim & I did some damage last week at the Dillard's New Year's Day Sale. And I happened to find a mega cute black & white checked sheer top...i.e. houndstooth.

Suddenly, I thought to myself...what in the heck is houndstooth?

According to Wikipedia:
Houndstooth, hounds tooth check or hound's tooth (and similar spellings), also known as dogstooth, dogtooth or dog's tooth, is a duotone textile pattern characterized by broken checks or abstract four-pointed shapes, often in black and white, although other colors are used. The classic houndstooth pattern is an example of a tessellation.

We won't get into the definition of tessellation. It's not really important for this little lesson. But aren't you glad you now know the origin and definition of houndstooth? I know I am.

Thank you, Wikipedia, for explaining the obvious to me.
And for allowing me to explain it to whoever is reading this nonsense. ha!

Haven't had enough yet?

Hello, 1950's Lucille Ball houndstooth.
And how can I not call attention to this killer oxblood pout. Killer.
This picture makes me want to walk up to every girl in sight and say, hey girl, heyyyy.

Hello, 1989 NKOTB shiny houndstooth.
You too can achieve this look with a can of Aqua Net & a pair of tweezers.

Hellllerr, 2012 twin houndstooth.
I heart you, Tia (& Tamera).
And your style.
And your cute husbands.
And your adorable babies.
And the way you display affection by sniffing each other.
And how fabulously you rocked this houndstooth dress.
And if you ever read my blog I also blogged about you here & here.

And last but certainly not least...bam.
Hello, 2013 Selfless Ambition houndstooth.

.:: Details ::.
top: Dillard's (here) | blazer: Dillard's (not available online)
jeans & necklace: Target (old)
suede peep toe booties: Audrey Brooke (thrifted | similar)

Clearly the love is still alive & well.

P.S. I counted the number of times I used the word houndstooth in this post. If you include the one I just used...16 times. Flipping ridiculous.
