Guest Post: Obsessed | Bodycon Edition

As I mentioned last week (and if you follow me on Instagram), you know that Baby Webb finally made her debut! While I settle into mommyhood, I've got a few great guest posts lined up for you. Today's post comes to you from my new blogger friend, Liz, who blogs over at Indulgera. Not only does Liz have a great sense of style, she's also a wife, mama-to-be AND owns an online shop also called Indulgera - where you can find the cutest boycon dresses and trendy accessories.

Be sure to stop by her blog & online shop!

The bodycon dress is a statement that you love your body, and done tastefully it screams sophistication rather than overtly sexy. The thing that I absolutely adore about these dresses is they are simple and easy to style but with big impact. You can dress it up or dress it down (see how I remixed the Penelope from Indulgera HERE) and wear it throughout the seasons. I tend to gravitate towards the long sleeve versions for more versatility, however short sleeves are great for a date night or a night out with your girls. Check out some of my favorites right now and don't forget to check out the boutique for more gorgeous options.

1. Indulgera - The Mimi Bodycon $48.00
2. ASOS - Midi Bodycon $42.19
3. River Island - Biker Dress $75.94
4. Vanessa Bruno - Mix Jersey Dress $202.51
5. Indulgera - The Veronica Bodycon $49.00
6. White Tent - Jersey Dress $150.20

Guest Post: Top 7 Mommy Tidbits

Baby Webb has finally made her debut! And while hubby and I get settled into being new parents, I've got a few fun guest posts lined up for you. The first coming to you by my friend, blogger buddy, and fellow mama, Vonna of Bottles, Bibs & Stilettos. Vonna's precious girl, Zoe, recently turned a year old so she was eager to share a few great mommy tips based on her experiences as a first-time mom this past year.

Enjoy and be sure to go check out her blog!

When Angela asked me to write a guest post for Selfless Ambition, I felt excited and quite frankly, privileged. She is by far one of my favorite bloggers. I had no trouble with deciding on a topic for my post. In honor of Angela becoming a new mom, I thought it would be fitting to share what I've learned in my first year of being a parent. It's amazing how much information you retain in such a short amount of time. I won't say I feel like an expert, but I definitely know more about motherhood now than I did a year ago. Here are my Top 7 Mommy Tidbits - Year 1 and counting...

1. Take time for yourself. It is very hard, if not impossible, to be an effective parent when you are exhausted, full of anxiety and overwhelmed with feelings of defeat. Do something you enjoy...alone. This means no kids and no hubby. Take a walk, read a book or have a girls night.

2. Dive into your purpose with passion. Whether you are a Stay-at-Home Mom or a Working Mom, keep your passions burning. Yes, that includes for your husband, but it also means for your dreams and aspirations. My daughter inspires me to build my events business. What are your passions?

3. Don't forget Date Night with Hubby. When you bring a baby into the mix, it becomes more challenging to have alone time with the most important man in your life. Yes ladies, even if you have a son, hubby is still number one. Scheduling time together will help to maintain intimacy, and keep the fire burning in your marriage. You may even have to start scheduling sex. The last thing you want is for Hubby to start feeling neglected or even jealous of the little one.

4. You can't do it alone so don't try. It really does take a village to raise a child. Get in the habit of soliciting much needed help from close friends and family, especially those who have been there, and done that. My mommy friends offered great advice on everything from what baby items to buy to getting baby on a schedule. My mom visits once a week to help out with my daughter. There's also teachers, and ministry leaders that will influence your child's life. We all need help. It's okay.

5. You will not be a perfect mom. Get over it. I hate to be the one to break it to you, but you will make mistakes as a parent. It took 4 months into motherhood for me to accept this truth. My prayer and belief is that my God is big enough to fill in the gaps of my shortcomings. In my quest to be the best mom I can be, I strive to minimize mistakes to help my daughter become the amazing woman God created her to be.

6. Some of the inexpensive brands work just as well as the top name brands. You know the Luvs commercials that send the message, by the time you get to the second child you've learned that you don't have to spend a lot on diapers. That is so true. Before you automatically go for the more expensive brands, try some less expensive alternatives. Do your research, of course. Sometimes spending a little more is better.

This is not an advertisement for Luvs diapers.

7. Pray. Pray. Pray over your children daily. I started praying over my daughter while she was still in the womb. You can never pray too much for your children. Pray for their health, their spiritual well being, their dreams, their relationships and more. Several of my Mommy friends have recommended  the book, "The Power of the Praying Parent" by Stormie Omartian.

Summer Bucket List | Progress Report

With this week being the last full week of summer, I figured it was time for a Summer Bucket List progress report. Well...really more like a final report. Although I didn't accomplish all of my goals (surprise, surprise), I did make pretty good progress on most of them. Here's the rundown:

1. Shake my pregnant boot-ay with my ladies at the Mrs. Carter Show. CHECK.

A few of my girlfriends (and my hubby, my girl Robin, and her hubby Derrick) made the 3.5 hour trek to Oklahoma City right after the 4th of July to see Bey live in concert. It was an uh-may-zing concert. She rocked it from the moment she stepped onto the stage until the moment she walked off...nearly 2 hours later. She is a true performer and, whether you're a Beyonce fan or not, you CAN NOT deny that she kills it every single time she graces the stage.

2. Host a surprise daddy-to-be shower. FAIL.
I still want to do something for my hubby. He so deserves it for putting up with me and some of my unrealistic demands the past 9 months. So stay tuned.

3. Eat my groceries and better plan my meals. CHECK.
Pretty sure the world knows how much eMeals has changed my life. Since starting eMeals, I typically cook 2-3 meals a week. Which is a HUGE improvement for us. The recipes are usually pretty simple and so yummy. And my hubby is always super appreciative for a home cooked meal.

4. Start a journal for my baby girl. CHECK.

Finally bought a journal and wrote my first entry last week. As I was writing, I fought back tears. I don't take for granted the extreme privilege it is to be a mother. I pray my words really encourage her heart one day.

5. "Hi, I'm your new neighbor" gifts. FAIL.
So yeah...didn't happen. Yet. Hoping to get around to this sometime soon, though.

6. Host a small house warming. FAIL.
I hear you can host a house warming up to one year after moving in to a new home. So technically I have until May 2014 to get this done. Hubby's birthday is in February so a joint house warming / birthday gathering may or may not be in the works. Stay tuned.

7. Buy, start and finish The Home Experience. CHECK...kind of.

So I bought the book. And it's sitting on my coffee table. The starting and finishing part will happen at some point.

8. Start and finish baby girl's nursery. CHECK.
The nursery is officially complete. Can't wait to share pics with you. In the mean time, here's a little sneak peek!

9. Rehab a few pieces of used furniture. CHECK.

Check out my post with before & after pics here.

10. Get going on my Project 52 challenge. FAIL...sort of.
Although I haven't quite gotten back into the challenge, I have been prioritizing time with the Lord in the Word a lot more.

Final tally...6 CHECKS and 4 FAILS. Not 100% but not horrible either.

Did you have any summer goals? How did you do?

40 Week Update

Due date?

How far along?
40 Weeks

How big is baby?
According to It's hard to say for sure how big your baby will be, but the average newborn weighs about 7 1/2 pounds (about the size of a small pumpkin) and is about 20 inches long.

Sugar-free popsicles and anything lemon-flavored

How I feel?
My energy has returned the past couple weeks. Lots of cleaning going on around here (a.k.a. nesting). I woke up around 5:30 in the morning on Saturday and felt the urge to do 7:30, all of the laundry was washed, dried, folded, and put away. ;)

Per my last OB appointment, I've gained about 44 pounds.

Lots of movement. She's very active in there.

Baby Webb is a girl! Read all about the gender reveal here.

Looking forward to?
Getting her home and settled. And starting our new life as parents...a full-time family of 3 and part-time family of 4.

Sleeping OK?
Yes, still sleeping pretty well. Which I know is a blessing especially at this stage of pregnancy. I woke up about 4 times last night to use the bathroom but I usually fall back to sleep pretty quickly afterward.

Next Doctor's Appointment?
Well if I don't go into labor today, my next appointment is tomorrow, September 17th.

Prayer Requests?
For me and my baby girl - for a healthy and speedy delivery.

For heart, mind, and spirit as we mentally, physically and spiritually prepare for the responsibility of raising a child.

Check out past updates!

I'm So Over Maternity Clothes + A GroopDealz Birthday Giveaway

So allow me to acknowledge a couple things before I get to my rant:

1. I've had a wonderful, healthy pregnancy. And I consider it a blessing to have been able to experience this.

2. I'm thankful for the financial resources to have been able to afford maternity clothes.

Now that that is out of the way, I'd just like to say that I'm so over maternity clothes. I can not WAIT to wear regular clothes again. I walk in my closet every morning and just stare at all of the pretty clothes I can't fit my large behind in at the moment. For the first time in my life, I actually feel motivated to work out if it means getting back down to a size that allows me to comfortably wear most of my pre-pregnancy clothes.

Whew. Glad that's off my chest. I know, I know...first world problems. But thanks for letting me share. ;)

Now on to a more fun topic. GroopDealz is a site that features daily boutique deals for all things lovely, to include (but definitely not limited to), accessories, baby items, home decor, stationary...the list goes on. Loving some of today's deals, especially the pair of chevron curtain panels and super cute tassel necklace.

I've personally scored some really great stuff on the site...wall decor, personalized return labels, swaddle blankets for my baby, and these two fab necklaces!

In case you haven't heard, GroopDealz is celebrating their 3rd birthday this week!
And as part of the celebration, they are hosting an amazing giveaway!

Go enter NOW! And good luck!

Fall '13 Color Trend | Emerald

With the changing season, the greens from spring evolve and develop.
Multifaceted emerald continues to sparkle and fascinate, bringing luxury and elegance to the palette...

Totally agree with Pantone. Love this shade of green. And it looks great against any skin tone.

I'm still very pregnant (almost 39 weeks) but I'm already looking forward to seeing how my sexy post pregnancy body {insert sarcasm} will form so I can wow my hubby for our first night out on the town as new parents. Our 4th wedding anniversary is October 4th which is only a few weeks away...not sure I'll feel up to getting dressed up and going out that soon after baby but it's a great goal to shoot for, right?

In my hunt for the perfect emerald dress, I came across these cuties from some of my favorite shops. All, with the exception of #2, are under $100. You'll notice that most of these dresses are either sleeveless, strapless or short...or all of the above. They don't really scream fall, do they? Unless you live in Texas where you only really experience 2 seasons...spring and that case you can get away with wearing a short, strapless dress in the fall. :)

So yeah...probably not the best dress to try to get into after having a baby unless you're say...Heidi Klum. But I love the length and open back detailing. Super cute for a night out on the town with the girls or your man!

Beautiful dress. Great for a fall wedding!

3. ASOS midi dress with pleated skirt | on sale for $41.35
This dress is perfect for a work setting. Either paired with open toe heels or booties for the warm fall Texas temps or with a blazer, tights and boots for the cooler days.

4. GAP drawstring dress | $59.95
Fun and easy for Saturday afternoon errands.

5. ASOS crepe sundress | on sale for $27
Love this dress. Light, flowy, and loving the tie-up back detailing.

6. MM Couture Maxi | $98
Perfect post-baby dress. Wrap dresses are usually the way to go. Loose, yet flattering.

Don't you just love emerald?  Such a beautiful color!

J.Crew Factory Faves + $100 J.Crew Giveaway!

Happy Labor Day, loves! Yay for a short work/school week!

I've teamed up with eleven lovely bloggers to bring you a $100 J.Crew gift card giveaway. But before we get there, I wanted to share a few of my current factory faves for fall. I've shared on occasion (or two) that I'm not a huge fan of J.Crew, primarily because of the cost of their clothes. Don't get me wrong...the clothes are beautiful...just WAY outside of my budget. But the factory store prices...I can wrap my brain (and wallet) around.

Fall is definitely my favorite season of the year! Can't wait to lose some of this baby weight so I can fit into my favorite fall peices. And in the mean time, I may stop by my local J.Crew Factory Outlet to pick up a couple of these super adborbs pieces and take advantage of their 40-50% off everything sale that ends today.

Now without further adieu...the $100 J.Crew gift card giveaway!
Be sure to enter, visit each of the ladies below & say hello!
One lucky winner will be selected...good luck!
